Fifty Shades of Grey & the Escort Industry

Probably the most impressive aspect to E L James Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy is the name which certainly does conjure up the right effect when it comes to describing the nuances in the way the escort industry is viewed. Fifty shades of grey is a gradation that can be applied to human sexuality (including the escort industry) in general. Human sexuality is all about taboos, and breaking them, and that almost automatically means that what you think of as acceptable, that is your shades of grey are probably something you keep to yourself and your intimate partners.
How many people would be shocked to know that the quiet, studious student you see at the library works as an escort by night? Or that the staid teacher you had at school had a fondness for another type of discipline altogether at home with her husband? There are many parallels to what society thinks is acceptable to be drawn between Fifty Shades of Grey & the Escort Industry.

What the novels and the movies have certainly done is to open up conversations about human sexuality and what is acceptable, and what people have found is that humans are very imaginative and innovative when it comes to this most basic biological need. Certainly, BDSM is out of the closet and in every high street store in the form of merchandise, as well as on the menu at some of the best-rated restaurants and hotels in the world. Someone is buying sexy whips and hand-cuffs and if it’s not your neighbour, it’s probably YOU!

The point is people are becoming more adventurous and there is no putting the genie back in the bottle. People have discovered the unlimited adventures that are available to them, and they want to be able to sample some of the dishes from the buffet. Not every dish may be your thing, but that doesn’t mean that applies to others. Right now, it has become acceptable to show an interest in BDSM. Of course, BDSM is not the only dish or set of dishes on the buffet table. There are many more, and just because something isn’t to everyone’s taste doesn’t mean it’s to yours.
What do you do if you are in a very happy relationship or marriage with someone who really isn’t into some of the pleasures that you fantasise about? Maybe your thing is being with two busty young women, but your wife wouldn’t like that, so you discreetly book time with escorts so you can indulge yourself without risking your marriage. Maybe you enjoy being with a dominating female – a very common male fantasy, but one which is not going to be played out in your personal life with your partner. What do you do here? How do you judge what is right and what is ‘wrong’? It’s all really shades of grey, isn’t it?
