The Imperial Gas Works stood on this land, and what replaced it is a grid of apartment blocks around Imperial Park, with the Thames on one side and Chelsea Creek cutting in on the other. The station opened on the West London Line and made the whole thing work.
The riverside path is the best part of it. It runs east towards Chelsea Harbour and west towards Wandsworth Bridge, wide, well lit and usually empty. Across the creek you can pick out the Lots Road power station chimneys. Behind you, Wandsworth Bridge Road climbs back up into Fulham proper with its shops and its restaurants.
There is very little nightlife here, which suits the people who live in it. The evening usually starts at home. A drink in the flat, the river going dark outside, then a short car ride to dinner in Chelsea or up Wandsworth Bridge Road into Fulham.
If you would rather not go far, the walk along the river towards Chelsea Harbour takes ten minutes and puts a marina at the end of it. Going the other way, the path towards Wandsworth Bridge is quieter still. Taxis are easy to get here and slow to arrive, so order one before you want it rather than after.
Most buildings here have a concierge desk, a lift lobby and an entry system, which helps rather than complicates. Tell us the building, the entrance and the apartment number when you enquire, and whether you want her to call from downstairs or come straight up. We will also ask what she should wear, and for a residential block the answer is often quieter than it would be for a restaurant.
